Context:

Nest App is a smart home app, that lets you control various smart home devices. It was bought by Google and comes with the Nest device. In this case study we are focusing on the heating feature of the Nest App that comes with an installed thermostat device in your home. You can control the heating from your device and also with your app.

Why the users weren’t happy?

I realized from user’s feedback that something was off about the app. They found it difficult to set up a heating schedule through the app’s scheduling feature and wished they could run a timer for the heater when they required.

“App is overly complicated and not very easy to use. Setting a heating schedule is painful. Why isn’t there a simple button to turn the heating on if needed outside the schedular? Nothing is easy to find or adjust, it could have been so much easier than it is.”
